    Job Purpose

    The Manager, UX Design, acts as a member of the Digital team at ALSAC and leads a team of digital designers, user interface (UI) developers and user interface (UI) architect under the leadership of the Senior Director, User Experience. Accountable for the level and quality of digital design, interface development, and usability of all public and internal facing digital products produced by Digital. Assigns appropriate resources and ensures adherence to design standards. This includes information architecture, user interface design, interaction design, visual design, and usability engineering. Works closely with the Sr. Director, User Experience to iterate the user experience, to be continually familiar with industry trends, digital design best practices and competing organizations’ digital experiences, and will help evolve ALSAC’s digital products accordingly. Leads a UX design team focused on creating compelling experiences that balance user intent, business needs, brand consistency, and site performance. Leads and develops the user experience design function at ALSAC, playing a strategic role in aligning the team structure and processes with the market needs and enterprise strategy, creating elegant and balanced solutions within the constraints of a complex technical framework. Works within an Agile development environment, to provide product scrum teams with user-centered design practices to support ALSAC and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for interactive products and digital marketing. Works with the UX Design team, along with their UX Content Strategy and St. Jude digital communications partners, to direct the creation and iteration of user interface standards and design patterns across multiple technology platforms. The Manager, UX Design also serves as an advocate for brand standards and helps to ensure that design implementations foster a consistent brand identity, as well as user experience across all digital touch points.

    Requirements

    • Requires knowledge ordinarily acquired through attainment of a Bachelor’s Degree and 7-10 years of hands-on digital design experience, with emphasis in user interface design and front-end development
    • Requires knowledge of new digital technologies and the ability to interact and extensively communicate with the technical team to conceptualize, design, lead, or assist in new digital products and applications
    • Requires hands-on visual/art design abilities and paper prototyping experience
    • Knowledge of design thinking and/or user-centered design principles and practices. Can comfortably lead collaborative design thinking sessions with contributors from multiple disciplines
    • Requires technical skill in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and jQuery, as well as knowledge of usability and design protocols, and proficiency with the Microsoft Office product suites. Must be familiar with software applications such as content management systems, customer relationship management and email campaign programs. Requires track record of delivering small and large-scale digital products and applications
    • Experience developing and working within brand and visual style guidelines
    • Experience in creative review and critique, and ability to clearly articulate design principles and give constructive assessments, as well as lead the UX Design team in developing these soft skills
    • Ability to interact well with Digital team members, fundraising business partners, and with senior leadership. Excellent project management skills and excellent written and verbal communications skills
    • Experience and comfort presenting and defending creative concepts and digital products to business partners, management and senior executives
    • Able to work independently, with autonomy, and without close supervision
    • Demonstrated complete understanding of: o Color theory and color relationships o Typographic systems as they apply to a brand system o Page composition and grid structures o Photography and the photographic process
    • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, Sketch or comparable professional-level digital design and prototyping tools
    • Working knowledge and/or some experience in JavaScript/JSON, XML, PHP, MySQL, Enterprise/Data-driven/Content Management Solutions, Web Accessibility Guidelines (Section 508) and implementing integration features to third-party sites and services (e.g., Joomla, Wordpress, and other SaaS, Social Media APIs, etc.)
    • Requires familiarity with SEO best practices
