Job Purpose

The Campus Experience unit and its programs are designed to facilitate a direct connection between visitors and the ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital campus in Memphis, TN.

 

The Director will provide visionary leadership over several areas:

• Campus Experience program processes and protocols

• Campus tour program design and delivery

• Technical support to departments wishing to engage volunteers in on-campus opportunities

• Liaising with ALSAC departments about on-campus engagement needs and support

• Liaising with the St. Jude Liaison Office for specific events and activities 

 

This position has direct oversight of public, VIP and core tour programs, which engage approximately 30,000 guests each year.

The Director is charged with creating a premier tour experience and will lead the effort to curate tour experiences, reframe the tour program to facilitate increased involvement of volunteer tour guides, refresh tour training, and establish protocols and metrics for tour program management. This role also has oversight of specific on-campus volunteer experiences. The Director and team will also provide technical support to departments who wish to engage volunteers with campus operations such as the gift shop, the event center, warehouse or daily logistics. The tour program is a high-visibility, guest service-driven initiative that operates daily and requires quick-thinking, nimbleness and an ability to work with the public, including celebrities, donors, patient families, ALSAC and St. Jude leadership and the Boards of Directors and Governors. On a day-to-day basis, the Director will lead a team of 3 staff members and dozens of dedicated volunteers. The engagement of volunteers in the operations of the Campus Experience team is a necessity and experience with volunteer management is desired. 

Requirements

  • Requires familiarity with hospital, museum and/or large program tour program design, delivery and management, policy development, governance and training, including experience with public-facing scheduling tools and volunteer management systems.
  • A background in tourism, hospitality, docent programs, customer/user experience, and/or volunteer utilization is a plus.
  • Strong management and problem-solving skills, politically savvy, ability to speak and write in a clear and understandable manner for internal/external relations;
  • Understand extremely complex verbal or written instructions; understand data processing applications;
  • Comfort with technology (webinars, conference calls, smartphones, etc.)
  • Must possess excellent diplomacy skills;
  • Knowledge ordinarily acquired through Bachelor's Degree plus 8+ years of progressive experience in program management and implementation including previous experience through levels of progressive management responsibility including supervision, budgeting, strategic planning, organizational development, cost control, resource allocation.
