Job Purpose

Performs all job duties under minimal direction and supervision. Major responsibilities include plans and organizes database administration projects; provides direction to applications development, production support, and maintenance personnel to support and improve database and application design; assists management in evaluating new and existing database technology; monitors database performance, integrity and security. Assists Sr. DBA in backup strategies. Develops strategies to facilitate information sharing and reduce data redundancy. Exercises best-practices for technical database design, development, and support; as well as collaborative efforts with DBA's to provide a reliable and scalable environment for development and production. The scope of specific responsibilities typically include tasks of high-level complexity.


  • Must be knowledgeable in Oracle PL/SQL or SQL Server T-SQL; TOAD; Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)
  • Database performance monitoring
  • OS shell scripting; Unix and/or Linux OS
  • Oracle Database Administration or SQL Server Database Administration
  • Utilization of most-current -supported version of Database
  • Rotate on-call with DB staff
  • Ability to quickly learn related technologies for the ALSAC environment
  • Vendor certification is preferred
  • Knowledge ordinarily obtained through a Bachelor's degree preferable in Computer Science or Engineering, plus 6-8 years experience in IT application development
